Supply Dhoani Returns to the Water at Madidhoo

Madidhoo Supply Dhoani

A new supply dhoani has been launched at Madidhoo, adding further capacity for the movement of cargo, supplies and agricultural produce by sea.

The vessel enters service following an extensive rebuilding and refurbishment project carried out at Madidhoo. An existing dhoani was substantially reconstructed and prepared for a new period of operation, giving the vessel a renewed working life and a significantly updated form.

Its launch marks the completion of a major project on the island and the beginning of a new chapter for the vessel.

Prepared for a New Period of Service

Considerable work went into preparing the dhoani for its return to the sea.

The project involved substantial rebuilding rather than routine maintenance or a minor refurbishment. The vessel remained on land at Madidhoo during the final stages of the work before being prepared for launch.

With the project complete, the dhoani is now ready to return to regular marine operations.

Supporting Transport to and from Madidhoo

Reliable sea transport is particularly important for an agricultural island.

Agricultural activity at Madidhoo depends on the movement of equipment, materials and other supplies to the island, while harvested produce and other cargo must be transported onwards to customers and markets elsewhere in the Maldives.

The new supply dhoani will help support these transport requirements while also providing additional capacity for wider cargo and logistics operations.

Marine transport has long been closely connected with activity at Madidhoo, providing an essential link between the island and destinations across the country.

Back on the Water

The launch represents more than the completion of the rebuilding work. It returns an existing vessel to productive service in a substantially renewed form.

As the dhoani begins its new period of operation, it adds to the transport capability available from Madidhoo and strengthens the infrastructure supporting agriculture and the movement of goods to and from the island.
